There will be times in life when we face disappointments. People will fail to meet our expectations. Our offenders may never have a clue of the pain they cause. The people we love and love us in return are flawed and have limitations just like us.
Likewise, things also hold the potential to absorb our hope, faith and confidence. A job, a 401K, the stock market or even a favorite sports team can become “gods” that are worshipped instead of viewed in the proper perspective.
Only the one true God is everlasting. When we allow ourselves to become “evergreen” our joy doesn’t come from other people or things but instead from within.
I want to invest my hope and faith in the one true Source that sustains.
Evergreens such as the ones pictured here often symbolize the promise of life when everything else appears dead. They thrive no matter the season. In the dead of winter when everything else is barren and cold, evergreens live on.
No wonder we joyfully decorate with holly and pines at Christmas. How appropriate for the season where we look beyond the here and now toward things that are eternal.
Like evergreens, I want to withstand the extremes in life.
The droughts.
The storms.
The hard freezes.
I want to stand strong and thrive!
When we place our trust in the Lord, we can push through anxiety and stress. We are equipped to receive peace far greater than the magnitude of our circumstances.
Dependence on God makes us stable and less likely swayed by things around us. As we lean on Him, we mature from people who thrive only for a season into people who are consistently stable, strong and evergreen.
Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.
